About me
Iβm Guillem Fernandez, a technology leader, coach, and consultant focused on the human side of engineering. I help engineering teams, IT departments, and tech leaders improve communication, ownership, execution, and team health without losing technical rigor.
Over the last 20+ years, Iβve worked as a developer, tech lead, engineering manager, consultant, founder, managing director, and Head of Engineering. That journey has allowed me to see the same team problems from multiple angles: from inside delivery teams, from leadership, and from the business side.
Who I am
I define myself as a People Engineer: someone who understands both systems and people, and who believes high-performing teams are built through clarity, trust, accountability, and good engineering habits. That idea is already present in your CV and is one of the best positioning lines you have, because it feels specific and memorable.
Iβve helped build teams, transform organizations, create companies, lead product development, and teach at university level because I enjoy solving hard problems and helping people grow. My work has ranged from hands-on engineering to executive alignment, always with the same goal: helping teams work better together.
Why work with me
Hiring me is not just hiring a soft-skills coach. It is hiring someone who has led real engineering teams, dealt with delivery pressure, managed organizational change, and worked inside startups, consultancy, and enterprise environments.
In recent roles, you have led product development transformation, unified distributed organizations, embedded CI/CD and quality-first practices, redesigned delivery structures, mentored leaders, and built high-performance teams. That matters because the advice you give is grounded in reality, not theory alone.
- 20+ years in IT and engineering leadership.
- Experience as developer, team lead, engineering manager, founder, managing director, and Head of Engineering.
- Background in startups, consultancy, and enterprise transformation.
- Real-world experience improving delivery, quality, leadership, and team culture.
- University teaching experience and long-term interest in sharing knowledge.
How I think
I believe most team problems that look technical are actually human and organizational. Delivery issues, poor meetings, missed deadlines, low ownership, attrition, and team fatigue often come from unclear communication, broken habits, weak leadership, or misaligned ways of working.
That is why my work combines coaching, mentoring, training, and practical process design. I do not separate people problems from engineering problems, because in real companies they are usually the same thing seen from different sides.
Free content and the Booster Skills framework
I publish free content to help people and teams understand the hidden mechanics behind productivity, leadership, communication, and collaboration in engineering environments. The Booster Skills framework uses simple metaphors inspired by computing systems to make complex human topics easier to understand and apply.
Some examples:
- CPU β how attention, focus, and personal processing capacity affect performance.
- Task Manager β how multitasking, overload, and hidden work reduce effectiveness.
- RAM / Memory β how human memory limitations affect communication, learning, and execution.
- Process Organization β how better team habits and workflows reduce friction.
- LAN β how people connect, communicate, and collaborate inside teams.
This content is free because I want the ideas to be useful even before someone hires me. For some readers, the framework is enough to spark better habits. For others, it becomes the starting point for deeper work through coaching, mentoring, workshops, or team transformation support.
I share the framework for free so people can start improving today; I offer my services for the moments when change needs guidance, structure, and real-world experience.
